Early Progress

Will and Sammy embarked at 23:50hrs and early progress is robust.

Do you suffer from ‘can’t find my car in the supermarket car park’ syndrome? Strap a 22’ yellow kayak to the roof and never be embarrassed again!

After a long drive last night and a ferry journey that seemed to take forever we recced a jump off point in Howth, just north of Dublin. From there we joined some old family friends with a plea of ‘we don’t wish to be rude but may we sleep, shave, eat and leave at 9pm please.’ They could not have been more accommodating. We could not have been more immaculately behaved as would you had you seen what the lady of the house does in her spare time….. (I will add the video clip when I get to a laptop)

From there all was workmanlike, checking and checking again and again, changing into wetsuits, calls to both coast guards, a nonchalant cheerio and off they went. My main concern at this point is if they crack on at the current pace they may well arrive just as my ferry is lowering it’s drawbridge on the other side. That wouldn’t do at all. My big moment is skippering the little drone. I expect though, that they will slow as swell and wind pick up later in the morning although they are right to exploit the relatively subdued water out there at the moment.

For me it’s a quiet evening in at the port service station until the morning ferry. It may not be much of a glamorous operations centre but  quiet and dull is always preferred in these situations!
